This 1953 Chevrolet Bel Air sport coupe is powered by a 235ci inline-six paired with a three-speed manual transmission and is finished in two-tone green over a color-coordinated interior. The car was acquired by the seller in 2011, and subsequent work consisted of converting the electrical system to 12 volts, installing an anti-theft device, refreshing the ignition system, and replacing the shocks, fuel filter, radiator, and battery. The body is finished in Surf Green with a Woodland Green Metallic roof and side molding accents. Features include a left-door-mounted spotlight, five-tooth grille, rear bumper-mounted spare tire, fender skirts, and a windshield sun visor. Chrome brightwork lines the grille, front and rear bumpers, side moldings, light surrounds, window surrounds, exhaust tip, and left-side mirror. The seller notes finish imperfections in the paint and chrome window surrounds.
This is a re-list after the vehicle was previously sold on BaT in March 2022 and the winning bidder failed to follow through with their commitment to purchase. This was not due to any fault with the vehicle. The winner has been banned from future participation on BaT and their buyer’s fee was not refunded.
The 15″ steel wheels wear polished stainless-steel hubcaps sourced from a 1954 Bel Air model and are wrapped in Remmington Cushion-Aire whitewall tires. Braking is handled by hydraulic drums at all four corners. Work completed under current ownership consisted of resurfacing the drum brakes, installing KYB gas shocks, and replacing the steering stabilizer.
The front and rear bench seats are upholstered in tri-tone green vinyl with cloth inserts and are complemented by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Features include a column-mounted shifter, locking glovebox, dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, heater, sun visors, and an analog clock. There is a tear beneath the driver’s seat bolster, stains are noted on the headliner, and the seller states that the heater and speakers do not work.
The two-spoke steering wheel is equipped with a full horn ring and fronts a 110-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges indicating coolant temperature, fuel level, battery status, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 60k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added by the seller.
The 235ci “Blue Flame” inline-six features a valve-in-head design and a 7.5:1 compression ratio. The aluminum radiator, electric fan, and coolant hoses were installed in December 2015. The oil and filter were changed in January 2022.
