This 1939 Cadillac Series 61 is one of a limited number of five-passenger touring sedans that left the factory with a Sunshine Turret Top sliding steel sunroof. It is said to have been sold new in California and was imported to Canada before it was purchased by the seller in 2011. The car is finished in white with champagne fenders over tan cloth upholstery, and power comes from a 346ci V8 paired with a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. Features include chrome bumpers and trim, a hood ornament, rear-hinged rear doors, and a heater. This Series 61 is now offered at no reserve in Ottawa, Canada, with Ontario registration in the seller’s name.
The Fisher-built body was delivered from the factory in Marblehead Gray (54) and was repainted in white with champagne fenders under previous ownership. Equipment includes chrome bumpers with overriders, a hood ornament, fender vents, an antenna, a split windshield, rear-hinged rear doors, and dual taillights. The Sunshine Turret Top sliding steel sunroof was introduced by GM for 1939 and was available on select Cadillac, Buick, and LaSalle models.
White-painted steel wheels are mounted with 7.00–16 Firestone Deluxe Champion bias-ply whitewall tires. The car is equipped with two hubcaps, and a matching spare wheel is stowed in the trunk. The Series 61 rode on a 126″ wheelbase and featured a coil-sprung independent suspension and a semi-floating rear axle with leaf springs. Stopping power is provided by hydraulic drums at all four corners.
The cabin features front and rear bench seats trimmed in tan cloth upholstery along with a color-matched headliner, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a heater, a locking glovebox door, a rear fold-down armrest, and ashtrays flanking the rear bench. Wear on the painted woodgrain dashboard can be seen in the gallery.
The banjo-style steering wheel has a cracked rim, and it frames a 110-mph speedometer and gauges for coolant temperature, battery charge, fuel level, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 12k miles, approximately 6k of which were added under the seller’s ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 346ci Monobloc V8 features a single Stromberg carburetor and was factory rated at 135 horsepower. A service was last performed in 2022, and the seller notes a high idle.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. Corrosion on the underbody can be seen in the gallery.
The vehicle is being sold on its Ontario registration, which serves as the ownership document in Ontario, Canada. The sale does not include a title.
