The 1980 Mazda RX-7 GS 5-Speed offers sporty performance and sleek design, showcasing Mazda's commitment to driving excellence and innovation.

This 1980 Mazda RX-7 GS is said to have remained with its original owner in Michigan until it was purchased by the seller in 2023. After reportedly being parked for an extended time, recommissioning work in 2011-12 included replacing the 1.1-liter 12A rotary, resealing the five-speed manual transmission, and replacing the clutch as well as installing a rear disc-brake conversion kit. Finished in Solar Gold over brown vinyl upholstery, the car is further equipped with 14″ Enkei alloy wheels, an aftermarket exhaust system, a sunroof, a remote radar detector, and air conditioning. This RX-7 is now offered with a window sticker, owner’s manuals, service records, and a clean Michigan title in the name of the seller’s LLC.

The car was factory-finished in Solar Gold with black trim and body-side moldings. Exterior details include a sunroof, pop-up headlights, front and rear mudflaps, and a power antenna. Blemishes on the bumpers are noted by the seller, and close-up photos of the finish are provided in the gallery below.

This is a relist after the vehicle was previously sold on BaT in May 2024 and the winning bidder failed to follow through with their commitment to purchase. This was not due to any fault with the vehicle. The winner’s participation on BaT has been restricted and their buyer’s fee was not refunded.

Enkei 14″ wheels with gold-finished centers are mounted with 195/60 Sumitomo HTS A/S P01 tires. The car was factory-equipped with power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes, and a rear disc-brake conversion kit was installed in 2011.

The seats are upholstered in brown vinyl, and the dashboard, center console, and door panels are trimmed to match. Additional appointments include air conditioning, a rear window defogger, and a Super Fox remote-mounted radar detector as well as an inoperable Pioneer AM/FM/cassette stereo, Marantz equalizer/amplifier, and Clarion CB radio. There is a tear in the upholstery on the driver’s seat cushion.

The four-spoke sport steering wheel frames a replacement 130-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 7k-rpm redline as well as a quartz clock and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 20k miles, approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 1.1-liter 12A Wankel rotary is a remanufactured “stage 2” replacement installed in 2012. A four-barrel carburetor was fitted from the factory, and a Rotary Engineering electric fuel pump and exhaust system were installed under prior ownership.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. The differential and gearbox were resealed in 2011, and the clutch was replaced at that time. There is rust on various underside surfaces, further depicted in the gallery.
