This 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk was the subject of a refurbishment under prior ownership, with work that included removing the body from the frame, a repaint in Midnight Black and Arctic White, reupholstering the cabin in white and charcoal leather, and installing a replacement supercharged 289ci V8. Shifting is through a three-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, and other features include 15″ Halibrand-style wheels, dual brake master cylinders, faux knock-off spinners, bright trim, an analog clock, and a front bench. This Golden Hawk was purchased by the seller approximately one year ago, and it is now offered with literature and documentation, spare parts, refurbishment photographs, and a clean South Carolina title in the seller’s name.
Studebaker built 4,356 examples of the Golden Hawk for the 1957 model year. This example wears a repaint in Midnight Black (5710) and Arctic White (5711) and features a mesh grille, fender-mounted turn signals, pop-open fender vents, chrome bumpers, and bright trim.
The 15″ Halibrand-style wheels have faux knock-off center caps and are mounted with American Classic tires. Factory equipment included double-action shock absorbers with variable-rate springs up front and shocks and leaf springs out back. Braking is handled by drums at each corner with a dual master cylinder setup, and the front brake hoses were replaced under current ownership.
The split front bench and individual rear seats are upholstered in white leather with charcoal center inserts, and engine-turned trim adorns the dashboard. Interior appointments include Studebaker-script floor mats, an analog clock, and a cabin heater. The radio does not work, and the left window only rolls down halfway. Dynamat insulation has been added to the floorboards.
The two-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, amperage, manifold pressure, fuel level, and oil pressure as well as a replacement tachometer that was installed in January 2023. The five-digit odometer shows 34k miles, approximately 150 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The car is equipped with a replacement supercharged 289ci V8 that was installed approximately seven years ago. The fuel pump was replaced and a high-output ignition coil was installed under prior ownership. The seller recommends running ethanol-free gasoline.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed manual transmission with overdrive and a Twin-Traction limited-slip differential. Work in December 2023 included installing a stainless-steel exhaust system as well as a replacement clutch return spring and adaptor.
