1946 Packard Super Clipper Eight

This 1946 Packard Super Clipper Eight was purchased by the seller in 2021 from the estate of its reported long-term prior owner. The car is powered by a 356ci inline-eight paired with a three-speed column-shifted manual transmission with overdrive, and it is finished in black over tan houndstooth upholstery. Equipment includes a chrome grille, trim, and bumpers as well as amber driving lights, a wood dashboard, a push-button AM radio, and 15″ steel wheels with hubcaps and whitewall tires. This Super Eight is offered with service manuals, manufacturer’s literature, and a California title in the seller’s name.

1946 Packard Super Clipper Eight

With postwar production resuming in 1946, the Clipper was a continuation of the integrated-fender design that was introduced in 1941. This example is finished in black with a chrome grille, bumpers, and trim, and features opening quarter windows, amber driving lights, a roof-mounted antenna, and “Super Clipper” badging. Body-colored 15″ steel wheels wear polished Packard hubcaps and are mounted with 235/75 whitewall tires. A spare is mounted in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes. The Super Clipper features an extended 127-inch wheelbase and independent front suspension.

Front and rear bench seats are upholstered in tan houndstooth mohair cloth and joined by color-coordinated door panels and carpets, while bright trim accents the woodgrain dashboard and window frames. Amenities include a cabin heater, a push-button AM radio, an analog clock, Packard-branded rubber floor mats, and hand-crank windows. Aftermarket switches for driving lights and a 12-volt outlet are mounted beneath the dash.

The three-spoke steering wheel with a horn ring fronts a 110-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, amperes, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. Aftermarket coolant temperature and oil pressure gauges are mounted beneath the dash. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 69k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
